Bespoke solid-wood dining tables

A dining table should work for ordinary meals and larger gatherings. The top, chairs, circulation and base must be considered as one solution.

Seats and room dimensions

Approximately 60 cm of table edge per person is a useful first guide. A 200 cm table may often seat six, 240 cm six to eight and 280 cm eight to ten, but chair width, armrests and leg position can change the result.

Mark the proposed outline on the floor and test routes to doors, kitchen units and terraces. A larger table is not better if it makes everyday movement awkward.

Width, plank and edge

Around 85 cm gives a lighter format, 90 cm is a familiar dining width, and 95–100 cm provides more serving space. The natural width of a solid plank may vary along its length.

A natural edge emphasises the tree; a straight or softly rounded edge creates a more controlled line. The choice is made on the actual plank and in relation to the room.

Base, finish and daily use

The base must support the top while preserving usable legroom. Supports near the ends free side seating, while inset legs can improve end positions.

Oak and ash respond differently to oil and pigmentation. Cleaning, heat protection and future maintenance are discussed before the surface and quotation are approved.
